How to spot fake shilajit

The category is full of imitations. A few commonly-cited checks — and why a lab report matters more than any of them.

As shilajit went viral, imitations followed. These are checks people commonly cite. Treat them as rules of thumb, not laboratory proof — the only real proof is a Certificate of Analysis from an accredited lab.

Commonly-cited checks

  • Solubility. Pure resin dissolves in warm water, usually turning it a golden-to-reddish brown without grainy residue.
  • Temperature behaviour. Resin tends to soften and become pliable with warmth and firm up when cold.
  • Texture & smell. A glossy, sticky resin with an earthy, mineral aroma — not plasticky or artificially sweet.

Why the COA wins

Home tests can be fooled. A batch-level lab report tells you the fulvic-acid content and confirms heavy metals are within safe limits — the two things that actually matter for a resin you will take daily. That is why we put one on every batch.
